Why are right wingers that are constantly in fear of 1984 coming true the ones who hate Assange / Wikileaks?

Why would someone who lives in fear of government tyranny want to silence a whistle blower? Why would people who are afraid the government is watching them be the biggest supporters of the Patriot Act? What is the rational here?|||I don't know how so many people can get this all backwards.

the right wing is in support of the kinds of restrictions and monitoring described in 1984. They've always supported more police powers , and the patriot act is their crowning achievement. Search and detain without a warrant is the holy grail for a police state.

And the recent disclosures of military logs, the collateral damage video and the diplomatic logs did show evidence of frauds, crimes and a lot of deceptions. It was so horrifying that Manning felt it need to be seen by the public. He didn't try to sell it, or give it to our enemies, he tried to give it to the one organization that promised to publish it completely without giving anyone a chance to hide the facts by claiming that it was secret.

That's wikileaks mission, you should read the about page on wikileaks.ch for more information on their reasons.|||You're mixing apples and oranges, it is your own faulty logic that leaves you confused.

A U.S. soldier gave away U.S. secrets, that a hanging offense. The fact Assange solicits this type of crime is no worse than the mob that cheers a lynching, but it's not a good thing. When people in secret documents are exposed, they get killed, and Assange should not have that power or insensitivity.

The Patriot Act merely extends to the Federal Government that which is already available to every State in the U.S., the ability to go to judge and get permission to wiretap a phone call. I don't worry about it done that way, and that's probably why Obama is happy to keep it and use it.|||Im left wing and I may not hate Assange but I don't at all agree with his methods. What he did was publish stolen US documents. Not to expose a crime, because none were expose, but to further his own pride and arragents. This makes it harder for our diplomats to have any form of discussion with other nations and maintain the credibility that what is said will remain secret. He didn't even have the decentcy to pay for Private Mannings defense, no instead he used this young soldier who was obviously way in over his head, for his own benefit. Im sorry but I can not see this guy as the "Hero" you and other fellow liberals do, just an opportunist. Expecially myself having served over seas in harms way.|||I found interesting the diplomatic cable that stated guns used in Mexican drug wars came from Central America.

At the same time Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Eric Holder were all calling for more gun legislation to stop the flow of guns over the border.

liars every one|||Freedom of speech only applies to what they agree with and then they wonder why the world thinks they are a bunch of hypocrites.

Justice also only applies to American enemy combants as was shown when the only person given a real trial was John Walker Lindh.|||Republicans simply don't know much about the issues. They listen to what Faux says, and repeats it. They're not very good at thinking for themselves.

They are by far the uneducated bunch.|||In 1984, most right wingers were listening to Duran Duran, and experimenting with their sexuality.|||Committing treason isn't actually the same thing as not wanting the government tracking me.|||"Small government" is only a catch phrase of the right it has no semblance in reality.|||Hypocrite fuuuucks.|||I'm a raging liberal and I'd like to see that azzhat Assange once the gangs in prison get through with him.|||they are paranoid|||theyre stupid
